Based on true events, Laura Henderson (Dame Judi Dench) buys an old
London theater and opens it up as the Windmill, a performance hall which goes down in history for, amongst other things, its all-nude revues presented in "artistic tableaux." It’s a warm, witty period piece. Though they are touched by tragedy, Henderson, along with the irascible theater manager Vivian Van Damm (BobHoskins) and her performers, bravely keep the theater open during the 1940-'41 Blitz of London.
