Becoming Astrid is a biographical film about the early life of Swedish author Astrid Lindgren (died 2002) known for numerous children’s books especially books about “Pipi Longstocking” and other characters such as "Emil of Lönneberga," and "The Six Bullerby Children." Her beloved children’s series has sold roughly 167 million books worldwide by 2010. Children from all over the world continue to be enchanted by Lindgren’s tales. This film focuses on her early years which might have been the most influential part of her life from which to draw her story ideas. The film highlights the challenges and experiences of growing up. The film is described as a bittersweet yet inspiring story, capturing the essence of a young woman finding her own power. The movie makes some use of Swedish and Danish language with subtitles.
